Interview/Review/Giveaway! Silver and Bone (Bloodlines 1) JD Thompson

Welcome to high school high society hell, where last season’s slingbacks can warrant a lunch table demotion, the wrong date will knock you off the it-list and behind every pair of oversized Chanel sunglasses lies a secret people are dying to keep.
As if senior year at Weatherford Preparatory School wasn’t hard enough, sixteen year old Alexis Bardolph had to add school outcast to the curriculum.
A new found notoriety following a family scandal, her lacrosse star boy-friend dumping her for a former BFF and a string of perpetually bad hair days were among the many things going wrong in her already turbulent teenage life.
But when the haunting nightmares that have plagued her since childhood begin to take an eerily tangible form and several Holler Creek residents are reported missing, Alexis can’t help but wonder if there isn’t more to her hellish dreams than meets the eye.
The unexpected arrival of a mysterious and dangerously handsome new student ultimately leads Alexis to troubling truths that not even her wildest imagination could have conjured

I love always going into a new book not knowing what to expect. This story peaked my interest from the first couple of pages. I found myself continuously guessing what was going to happen next and being constantly surprised. I find that rare these days to jump into a book not at least having an idea of how the ending will happen. I had no clue what all the mystery and the secrets were about until literally the end of the book and was very pleasantly surprised and excited.
I think it is very well written, with a gripping gripping plot. The characters are interesting and the dynamics between Her and Lucas and her and her sister really leaves you wanting more. It was a very enjoyable read and I recommend it.

Author Interview: JD Thompson!

Do you listen to music while you write?

Music plays a very important part in my writing process. Being musically challenged
myself (I have absolutely no musical skills whatsoever), I have so much admiration for music and the people who create it. Songs have a way of transporting people, making them feel emotions with even a single key. For me, the right song can set the mood for an entire chapter. I'm rarely found writing without earphones lodged into my ears. While writing Silver and Stone, there were certain songs that were on repeat. While writing Chapter 21 and 22 I listened to the song Stay by Hurts almost continuously.

Who is your favorite character to write?

In Silver and Stone, I believe my favorite character to write was Lucas. I’m a hopeless romantic and so utilizing him was a tone of fun. Plus, I like a challenge and Lucas was definitely that. Knowing what he knows without giving anything away was a struggle throughout the whole book.

Is there a character you connect with the most?

While I feel as though I connect with each character for different reasons, the one I relate to the most is Alexis. The way she handles herself in difficult situations and her dry sense of humor are traits I see in myself. I actually hadn’t realized how much of myself I had put into Alexis until a close friend pointed out the similarities. That being said, my problems are no where near as extraordinary as Alexis’s. My day to day issues have to do more with potty training a toddler than being chased by supernatural beings, but we have subtle resemblances all the same.

When you sleep do you dream about your characters and their stories?

This is a tough question, because to answer yes would imply that I do in fact sleep (who has time to sleep when you have three jobs?). All kidding aside, I often do my best thinking at night and wake up scrambling to jot down random thoughts or story lines. Sometimes all I’ll remember will be a single sentence, which will potentially lead to a whole chapter. Other not so productive times, I will wake up to realize that what I wrote down is basically gibberish. You can’t win them all I suppose.

What are you working on now?

At the moment I'm finishing the second installment of the Bloodlines Series entitled
Blood and Champagne and I’m hoping to be done the entire series by the spring. Beyond that I have no idea where my writing will bring me. I have another YA project in mind, though it's too early on to tell if that's what will follow.

My thoughts: I have heard that it's a good thing for authors to put some of them into the characters, "Write what you know", and who do you know better than yourself? I agree that music can really help a writing process, it brings out emotions and a tone into the writing that really helps benefit the story without you realizing it. I cannot wait to see where this story goes and am looking forward to Blood and Champagne!
